A sampling of the outings we have gathered for in the past few months will let you know what getting plugged into the “social aspect” of B1 is all about.  Let’s face it…Christian friends are a necessity…make some incredible ones!

• Dallas Museum of Art and Twisted Root-

A splash of culture ending in an evening at one of Dallas’ elite burger joints.

• Fort Worth Arts Festival-

Sometimes it is fun to head out west to Funky Town!  This annual Fort Worth event is something locals look forward to.  A slight venture from Dallas culture.

• Night at the Drive-In-

A short drive to Ennis, Texas leads to a trip back in time.

• Summer at the Lake-

Afternoon/evening at Lake Ray Hubbard.  Grilling, sports, swimming…

• Impromptu hang-out sessions-

Girls Night, Dinner and Movie, Summer Musicals.  You name it…there is always someone wanting to hang-out!

The breakfast seemed more like a banquet…awesome! We thank Barbara Cooper and team for their typically excellent job with the meal! Thanks also to a dedicated and talented team that decorated for the event! Several of our singles shared about the work and service of our groups with approximately 35 different missions and partnering organizations! God is at work among our singles!

Javier and Carla Leon of the Rosemont Church of Christ in south Fort Worth were our special guests for the morning. It was such a treat to have them with us! The weather was gray and rainy but the food and fellowship at Prestoncrest was bright and shiny! Thanks to all who attended the breakfast and generously provided your financial and prayerful support! You really are “World Class”!

My guess is that most of us have a few things in common. Most are looking to make sense out of life, purpose and the world around us.

We go to work, meet people, make choices, hang with friends, live life…but what does it all mean? What are the questions? Where are the answers? And where does God fit in all of this?

I look forward to exploring some of these roads with you. Lots of twists and turns. Some knowns. Some unknowns. And no doubt, lots of surprises. Are you ready?

This “come and go” event is to share plans and pray for our Prestoncrest Singles 2009 service ministries! It’s an excellent way to hear about some mission trips already planned, some new opportunities developing, meet new people, hang out with good friends and encourage others. Donations will be accepted with proceeds helping to purchase supplies and funding for general mission needs along with outreach to the cities of Dallas and Ft. Worth ministries.

Last year, the Prestoncrest Singles’ World Class Breakfast with an outstanding attendance and generous contributors helped raise $4,897! Looking forward to seeing you there this year! RSVP today!

The Prestoncrest Singles were STRONGLY represented by Team Lock, Pop and Drop Cancer.  The Dream Team consisted of  Delena, Natalie, Kristin, Kelli, Michelle, Anastasia and Marvin – all fantastic (and fast) walkers!  The team walked in honor of Mama Penny (Delena’s mom) and Aunt Sally (Marvin’s aunt).   To raise extra money, the team decided to sell baked goodies and have Kelli punch people in the face if they didn’t donate.  If they prefered not to be punched, she kicked them in the face.   Needless to say, we raised the most money.  (Disclaimer: The last part about punching and kicking people in the face may have been fabricated).

Team Lock, Pop and Drop Cancer walked so fast that the race organizers cancelled the event at midnight – 7 hours earlier than planned.  (Disclaimer: We may have gone home early because of swine flu and not the speed of our walking).

Good times!

God calls us to spread his word and take care of those who need help. So often, we think of that as planning a weeks-long mission trip around the world and we overlook the people in our own communities that need help. In Dallas-Fort Worth, there are the forgotten people we overlook on the streets that don’t have a home or a warm place to call their own. There are people, our neighbors, we see every day that need our love and care as we share God’s word with them.

In November, we issued a call to our Prestoncrest Singles to donate gently used or new coats and blankets for “Covering Dallas with Love.” We planned to distribute the items donated to the homeless community and those who needed it. The response was OVERWHELMING. YOU nearly filled up half of our B1 Singles room at Preston Place with your kind donations.

This allowed us to make an impact in our community right here in North Texas. We distributed some of the coats and blankets via Richardson ISD and also via Rosemont Church of Christ in Fort Worth. We’ve be able to start relationships within our community and show people what a caring, god-centered people can do.
